Tailor made
version of the Armored Forces patch. These types of patches were sometimes
purchased privately by the soldiers, usually for wear on dress uniforms.
Usually they were placed 1/2"-1" under the
shoulder seam. The current unit was sewn to the left sleeve,
while any previous unit might be placed on the right sleeve.
In the early to mid-war period, independent tank battalions used the plain "Armored Force" patch, then started to use the numbered ones by around 1944. Armored division personnel mostly wore their appropriate divisional patch.
