Instituted
on December 29th 1944 this was to be the highest variant of the
Knight's Cross. This award was originally intended to be for 12 of the
most distinguished men enlisted in the German Armed Forces. However only
6 of these were ever made and only 1 was presented to Hans-Ulrich Rudel
the other 5 were confiscated by the US government.
This
