On July 20, 1944 an attempt was made on Hitlers life by
Colonel Count Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg. To commemorate
this attempt on his life Hitler introduced a special Wound
Badge whom he awarded to the 24 occupants, or dependents in
the case of the dead. The first of these awards was made on
August 20, 1944.
