The Infantry Assault Badge was established on December 20, 1939 as a recognition of combat action as an infantryman. The silver version was awarded to officers, NCO's and enlisted men of rifle companies not in Motorized Divisions, and to Mountain Troop companies who completed the following.
-Combat in 3 assaults.
-Combat in the front lines.
-Combat armed with hand weapons during assault.
-Combat on 3 different combat days.
